Steady Through Change: A Resilience Workshop for Calgary Teams

A two-hour, experiential workshop that gives your people practical tools to stay clear, connected and adaptable while the ground is shifting under them.

The change was announced in one email. Since then, the hallway conversations have run longer than the meetings, and everyone is being professional about it.

The idea underneath

People don't resist change because they are difficult.

They resist it because uncertainty reads to the body as threat, and a nervous system under threat narrows what we can see, hear and decide. When people understand that response, they can steady it, in themselves and in each other, and every other skill becomes usable.

Most change management workshops focus on the plan. This one focuses on the people carrying it. It is resilience training for employees that starts where change actually lands: in the body, before it reaches the mind.

The session draws on established, evidence-informed frameworks, including William Bridges' model of transition, the window of tolerance, and the mental health continuum model many workplaces already use. Short teaching segments sit alongside brief practices, real workplace scenarios and small-group discussion. It is wellness education, not clinical treatment.

Who this is for

Three rooms we know well

The team in the middle of it

A restructure, a new system, a merger, a move, a new leader. The work still has to get done while nobody is quite sure what next quarter looks like.

The leaders carrying the message

You are asked to communicate decisions you did not make, with information that is still incomplete, to people you care about. You want to do it steadily and honestly.

The people others lean on

Peer supporters, HR partners and informal go-to colleagues who notice strain first and want to know how to open the conversation, listen well and know when to refer.

What participants leave able to do

Five skills, usable the same day

ExplainWhy change is experienced as threat, and how that drives the patterns we call resistance, in ourselves and in colleagues.
ApplyTwo or three quick regulation skills to stay clear, confident and adaptable when the ground is shifting, at work and at home.
UseSimple communication tools for transitions: what to say, what to ask, and how to keep conversations steady when information is incomplete.
IdentifyEarly signs of strain on the mental health continuum, in themselves and in peers, and know when to step in, support or refer.
BuildA personal change plan that frames the transition as an opportunity for growth, with one practice to start tomorrow.
What the two hours look like

Six segments, one arc

Every practice takes under two minutes and works at a desk, in a vehicle or between meetings. No equipment, no special setting, no forced sharing.

1. Steadying the room

10 min

A short grounding practice, the plan for the session, and why change lands in the body before it lands in the mind.

2. Understanding resistance

20 min

Resistance as a protective response to uncertainty and loss. Using Bridges' three phases of transition (endings, the in-between, new beginnings), people map where they and their team are, and what each phase needs.

3. Confidence under pressure

20 min

The window of tolerance and how pressure narrows it. Two quick regulation skills and a reframe that rebuilds a sense of control when much of the change is outside it.

4. Communicating through transition

20 min

What people need to hear when information is incomplete, asking before assuming, and handling rumour, frustration and pushback without escalating. Practised in pairs on real scenarios.

5. Resilience amid uncertainty

20 min

Noticing early signs of strain in yourself and in peers, recovery habits that fit real schedules, and the peer conversation: opening it, listening without fixing, and knowing when to refer.

6. Change as growth

30 min

Turning the session into action. Each person builds a one-page personal change plan, names one opportunity inside the transition, chooses a practice to start tomorrow, and the group closes together.

What is included

Built around your change, not a generic one

Before

A planning call to understand the change your people are going through, so the scenarios and examples in the room are theirs.

In the room

Two hours of live facilitation, in person at your site in Calgary (recommended) or live virtual on your platform with interactive breakouts. For shift-based or larger organizations, the workshop can run more than once.

To keep

  • The Steady Through Change toolkit: transition map, practices step by step, communication tools
  • A personal change plan, completed in the session
  • A one-page peer conversation guide
  • A resource list aligned with your existing employee supports
Who holds the room

Steadiness you already have, used on purpose

Change doesn't ask people for a new kind of strength. It asks them to use the steadiness they already have, on purpose, in a new place. That is the whole design of this workshop: plain language, no jargon, and practices built for people who are used to holding it together.

Castle Wellness corporate workshops are designed and facilitated by Julien Lepage, who holds a Master of Social Work in Leadership and has been a Registered Social Worker (#9906) practising in mental wellness since 2008. He designs sessions that turn evidence-informed frameworks into skills people can use the same day.

Castle Wellness facilitation and workshops are a professional development service. They are not therapy, counselling, or a regulated health service, and Julien's registration as a social worker does not extend to this offering.
What will and will not happen

In the room

Will

  • Short teaching segments, brief practices and real workplace scenarios.
  • Pair and small-group work sized to your group.
  • A personal change plan each person writes for themselves.
  • Materials everyone takes with them.

Will not

  • Nobody is asked to disclose anything personal. Participants choose how much to say.
  • No jargon, no lecture marathon, no trust falls.
  • No clinical assessment of anyone in the room.
  • No promise about how anyone will feel afterward. What we promise is practical tools and a better conversation about the change.
Questions people ask before booking

Frequently asked

What kind of change is this workshop for?

Any organizational change that leaves people uncertain: restructures, new systems or policies, leadership changes, mergers, relocations, or a long stretch of "we will know more soon." The planning call shapes the scenarios to yours.

How is this different from a change management workshop?

Change management usually works on the plan: timelines, stakeholders, communication schedules. This workshop works on the people living through the plan, with practical workplace resilience training they can use the same day. The two fit well together.

Can it be delivered virtually?

Yes. Live virtual sessions use your platform (for example, Microsoft Teams) with the same content and interactive breakouts, and work best with cameras on. In person is recommended because the practices and pair work land best in the room.

How many people can attend?

Tell us how many people you expect and we will shape the pair and small-group work to fit. For shift coverage or large teams, the workshop can run as several cohorts.

Is this part of corporate wellness, or something separate?

It sits well inside a corporate wellness program in Calgary or as a standalone session at a key moment in a change. Materials include a resource list aligned with the employee supports you already have.

Where do you work, and what does it cost?

Calgary and area in person, and anywhere by live virtual. Every engagement is quoted after a short discovery call, once we know your group, format and number of sessions.

Is this therapy or counselling?

No. This is a facilitated workplace workshop and an educational service. It is not counselling, psychotherapy or a regulated health service, no clinical or therapeutic relationship is formed, and it is not a substitute for professional mental health care.

Change is coming either way. Your people can meet it steadier.

A 30-minute discovery call is where we work out what your team is going through, which format fits, and what you want to be true afterward. No preparation needed.
