It depends on the service - and the GST treatment is a useful way to see the line between the two kinds of offerings at Castle Wellness.
Therapy (regulated health service): individual therapy, couples therapy, and family-support sessions provided by Julien as a Registered Social Worker are GST-exempt under the Excise Tax Act.
Wellness services (not regulated health services): Guided Journeys, sound sessions, group wellness experiences, and corporate workshops are subject to 5% GST.
1-on-1 Services
I work best with individuals ready to address trauma and deepen self-awareness. A complimentary 15-minute consultation is available to discuss your goals and ensure alignment.
Everything at Castle Wellness falls into one of two clearly separate categories:
Regulated health services (therapy) - provided by Julien as a Registered Social Worker under the Alberta College of Social Workers: Personalized Therapy (initial assessments and ongoing individual sessions), couples therapy, and family-support sessions connected to a therapy file. Available to clients in Alberta only. GST-exempt. May be claimable under extended health benefits that cover Registered Social Worker services.
Wellness and personal-development services (not therapy) - Guided Journeys, sound sessions, group wellness experiences, and corporate workshops. These are not regulated health services, are subject to GST, are not claimable as RSW therapy under health benefits, and are available beyond Alberta.
If you are unsure which fits your needs, ask - the free 15-minute consultation exists exactly for that conversation, and if therapy is what you need, therapy is what will be recommended.
Therapy sessions use evidence-based methods like Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and somatic techniques.
Guided journeys are non-clinical, introspective experiences that incorporate mindfulness, rhythm, and storytelling.
- In-person: At Castle Wellness - Go to our Contact Page for the address and a link to Google Maps.
- Online: Secure Zoom sessions available
Weekly or biweekly is common initially, with adjustments based on progress. Long-term clients may transition to monthly check-ins.
Many extended health plans in Alberta cover sessions under “Registered Social Worker (RSW) therapy.” Check with your provider for details.
This applies to therapy sessions only. Wellness services - Guided Journeys, sound sessions, group wellness experiences, and workshops - are not claimable as Registered Social Worker therapy.
Individual therapy: $200/hr or $250 for 90 min
Initial assessments: $400 (2 hours)
No. As a Registered Social Worker, I do not diagnose conditions or prescribe medication. If needed, I can refer you to a psychiatrist.
Therapy services are limited to Alberta due to professional regulations.
However, non-clinical coaching and guided sessions are available for out-of-province and international clients.
I adhere to strict ethical guidelines as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) under the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Sessions are confidential, except in cases of legal duty (e.g., risk of harm).
A regulated health service is one Julien provides in his capacity as a Registered Social Worker (RSW), within the scope of social work practice, under the Alberta College of Social Workers Standards of Practice and Alberta’s Health Professions Act. At Castle Wellness that means Personalized Therapy: initial assessments, individual therapy (including ART, DBT, ACT and somatic approaches), couples therapy, and family-support sessions connected to a therapy file.
The other offerings - Guided Journeys, sound sessions, group wellness experiences, and corporate workshops - are wellness and personal-development services. They are not therapy, not regulated health services, and are delivered outside the clinical role. They can be meaningful and supportive, but they are not a substitute for mental health treatment.
I do not provide or administer plant medicines. I offer preparation and integration support from a harm reduction perspective for individuals navigating these experiences independently.
As an RSW, I can only provide regulated therapy within Alberta. Clients outside the province may access non-therapeutic guidance.
